ONE THOUSAND MUSEUM

News came out last week regarding two luxury condo projects in Downtown Miami and South Beach.

The developers of Zaha Hadid’s voluptuous One Thousand Museum condo tower won unanimous approval from Miami’s urban design review board. The tower, to be the Pritzker prize-winning architect’s first skyscraper in the Western hemisphere, will stand at 706 feet at 1000 Biscayne Blvd., directly across from the future Museum Park. The much-anticipated new cultural area will feature developer Jorge Pérez’s Pérez Art Museum Miami and the Patricia and Phillip Frost Museum of Science.

Contracting the London-based architect for the tower symbolizes Miami’s newfound reputation as a world city, according to Mayi de la Vega, the founder and chief executive of One Sotheby’s International Realty in South Florida, the building’s marketing and sales agent.

On the other side of Biscayne Bay, in South Beach Related Group broke ground on their latest luxe condo tower, One Ocean, just a week after they got the city’s approval. Related chairman and chief executive Jorge Pérez announced the project, at 91 Collins Ave. in Miami Beach’s South of Fifth neighborhood, in October and then tapped Mexican starchitect Enrique Norten to bring it to life. One Ocean is slated to include 46, 3,000-square-foot units and four villas.

The One Ocean condo project brings together a number of artists and designers, including Norten, Enzo Enea, Jose Bedia, Eugenio Cuttica, Michelle Oka Doner and Daniel Azouley. Norten is also designing the neighboring 321 Ocean on Ocean Drive on behalf of Aria Group.
